Nine Literary Letter Collections For The Curious Reader

Over at The Millions, I have a list of my favorite modern collections of correspondence by authors. Thanks to editor Lydia Kiesling for letting me geek out on one of my favorite subjects.

The emails between Natalie Portman and Jonathan Safran Foer will soon be forgotten, while other correspondence is here to stay. Let’s go back to the days where writing letters was more about cultivating confidants and friendships, and less obviously a media stunt. Reading someone’s letters give us a glimpse into their private life — that’s why we love them.
